Small Scale Metal Lathe Questions

Hello All,

I have a very good customer who wants to buy me a small scale metal lathe to do some fancy work on his current rod and future rods. Right now, I plan to work with mainly Aluminum. I want to use this lathe for Trim Rings, Hosels, Winding Checks, Butt Caps, etc. I am looking for a good quality, fair priced unit that will handle what I need without breaking the bank.

Sooo....

1. What size lathe would I need?
2. What brands/models should I look at?
3. What brands/models do I stay away from?
4. What additional tools would I need?
5. Anything else I need to know?

Thanks in advance for your help and feedback.

Phil,
Do a search on this...I outlined the metal lathe I use as well as the supplier. It's the best in class for the price.

Check out the Taig Microlathe. These are bulletproof and it's pretty much the same design for 40 years.

I bought the Sherline lathe and mill. Very high precision, Made in USA. LOTS and LOTS of accessories, far more so than any other.
