I've searched but cannot find how-to information on either the braid or pre-weaved wrap material. Up to this point I have only worked with regular thread or metallic. I'm looking for some information to help me get started with some of these other products. I did not see anything in the back issue index either. Does anyone know of a source?

There are cross wraps (diamond wraps I think) that are pre done like the Chinese finger cuffs. However if you want one of the more intricant designs you would have to learn how to do cross wraps. There are no pre woven patterns that I am aware of so you would have to learn how to weave if that's what you want.

I think what Jim is talking about is the Flashabo Minnow Body material. It is quit impresive and very easy to use. Several of the sponsors carry it. Get the medium diameter stuff for rod OD less than 0.375 inches. The large material works nicely on rods .5 to .75 inches. I generally add additional thread wraps using the minnow body material as a template. If you send me your email address, I'll send you a picture of a couple that I have done.

THe braid is teh same as thread, just wider. Make a diamond or Chevron and you can figure it out form there. There is no information on it because it is so easy to use.

How do you start and end a wrap with 1/8 or 1/32 in. wide thread? Superglue? I realize for a butt wrap how that works but if I want to use some braid for guide wrap accent how do I work with it?

Personally, I would'nt recommend braid for guide wrap trim. I'd use a standard metallic thread. I would assume you'd have all sorts of issues with th ethread, mostly keeping it flat as a trim band wrapped around teh blank - the spot where you pull it under would have a big bump as well.

I think that stuff was specifcally made for butt wraps, although I dont' make it and I'm really not sure, I'm just guessing.

Use the braid for butt wraps the same way as regular thread but I wouldn't use it on guide wraps!.. Personally, I think that it would look kind of weird and I don't know how effective it would be. Like you said the tie off would really look odd.

The effective use of a braid will speed up the wrapping of a butt wrap. To keep your work with a reasonable appearance it is best to apply a braid wrap as the first pass on the blank. Subsequent layers of single width thread will then cross the braid and break up the color band and partially cover it up. If the braid is on top you will find that the visual effect is just to much color for good appearing wraps. Take a look on the Photo Board and search around for the cross wrap pattern that you want - there are many good one that use a braid.
