Greetings from the great wet west:
I just received all my "stuff" to assemble a three piece St. Croix spinning rod blank (2S703MF) touted as a "trout, panfish, walleye" rod. This rod is different from others I/ve seen. The separate pieces slide over each other in cone or telescoping fashion. The wall thickness on each end simply overlaps the plug or male end. The rod does not present one long taper from butt to tip. Thus, the ferrules are not really ferrules, and the walls of tube on the socket ends are much thicker than normal. My question: Given the obvious greater thickness of blank walls on the female ends, is it necessary to wrap them as is the usual case with rods with "normal" ferrules? I intend to wrap only the male ends at points to act as "stops" when sliding on the female end of the middle and end sections. Does this make sense? These are normal furrels. Tip over butt. You have a quality blank there.
All you need is a wrap on the femail end of 2 times hole size. As close to the end as you can get. Also make sure the mail end has a plug in it to keep dirt out. Re: Wrapping socket end (female) ferrule on "telescoping" rod.

don't wrap "stops" on the males. later as the ferruls wear the ferruls will push up against the stops and will no longer be tight. there should be nothing on the males that could interfere with the ferruls seating properly as they age. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
