Hello,
Well, the rear hood on the Rainshadow float rod came loose. I was able to cut the rear cork away and re-glue the hood so it shouldn't happen again. I'd appreciate any tips on fitting and gluing the new rear grip (cork) over the butt of the blank. I'm sure it's not the bet way to do it, but it beats tearing the rest of the rod apart. Thanks in advance, Steve Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/08/2005 09:20AM by Steve Dyczkiewycz. Re: Rear grip replacement

Steve do a search, this subject has been covered many times on this board. There are a couple of ingenious ways of doing it. One is to make sort of a core drill out of a piece of tubing that just fits over the blanks butt section and drill out the center of the old grip. Remove, drill or ream the new handle to fit the remaining cork and epoxy on the new handle. Regards......Doug@ TCRds Re: Rear grip replacement

Here's how I'd do it. Turn the old cork down but make it so that there is no taper. Then install a new cork grip, reamed to git over the old. It should slide straight on from the butt and cork glues easily to other cork. Use Titebond III for less mess. Re: Rear grip replacement

William said how, but I think, Rod Bond instead of Tiitebond. Ralph If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Re: Rear grip replacement

As always, thanks for the help. It's drying now and hopefully it'll be ready for Saturday.

I ended up cutting away the rear grip and reaming a new one so it just slid over the blank. The butt section of the blank did not have much taper, so it worked out well. I did file groves the length of the grip so it would bond stronger. 2 weeks and a dozen fish later, all is well.
