A small fly guide? Won't fold, but is rust-proof if ceramic. -Cliff+++ Re: hook keeper

i like the strap and ring hookeeper. i wrap all the way and under the saddle as well. looks really classy i think. for larger rods i also like the fuji style folding hook keepers. you can get the strap and ring at REC
or GOLDEN WITCH. Re: hook keeper

i've used the folding fuji ones, th small model. unobtrusive and not given to noise when not being used like i once suspected.
i've also used a very different style i cannot recall where i got it from (one of the sponsors to the left i think). it's a single piece of flat wire which extends a length then forms a circle to return to the starting point. imagine the letter P with a long length. very simple (although you could say the U shaped ones are even simpler). i like them for their uniqueness but subtle too. not chrome exactly, duller colored but in the spectrum of silver. there's an @#$%& seller calling them simply "hookkeepers" selling in a bulk of 25 i think. i hesitate to suggest @#$%& but it would offer a photo at least. eric fresno, ca. I've used a small, single foot wire guide. Mount it with the foot facing toward the rod tip and use a locking wrap. This way it won't pull out if you tighten up on your line while "hook-holding".

I bought a Kistler rod last year and fell in love with the hook keeper on it. It works better than any other I have seen. You can even hook up a soft plastic bait without pulling the hok out of the bait. One heavy duty paper clip makes two hook keepers with a pair of needle nosed pliers and about a minutes time...I made a bunch and put them on every rod I have. Re: hook keeper

I have been making "hook keepers" from some old monel wire line I had laying around . I use small needle nose pliers to bend them. I make them large or small, some are even made to acomadate two hooks. The stainless monel seems to work fine and it does not RUST..
