I am building a 10ft 8 weight rx7 rainshadow fly rod. This is the first rod I have ever built. I want to order guides from pacific bay. I dont real know exactly how many I will need and what sizes. I am going to be using a multi tip which has big knots, so the tip top needs to be oversized. Can you guys help me out??? I'll worry about guide spacing later.

Thanks

Mike Miller

contact a vendor to the left who offers pac bay stuff, tell them what you're building, they'll help you with the sizes and amount.

generally it's one more guide than the rod length in feet, right? 10 foot rod, 11 guides, which does not include the tip top or stripper. correct me if i'm wrong. i hate pop quizes...

You are better off getting several extra just to be on the safe side

if this is your first rod, there's a good chance there might be a following. take bill's advice and order extra. 1-2 extra tip tops, a few winding checks, an extra stripper, etc. if you stay with this and order a little extra each time, you'll build up a little stock of misc things you WILL find you'll need at some point.
