male section of the ferrule

The male section of the ferrule is too tight to fit into the female section far enough to make a good fit. According to the piece that was broken it needs to go another 5/8 of an inch . Can I very lightly sand down the male section of the rod to make it insert to the proper length? Thanks

Well, that's going to weaken the male section. Where did you get the replacement section? Did you just trim 5/8" off a broken section and now want to refit that? Not a very easy or good way to do it I'm afraid.

If I'm understanding what you're doing correctly, the best fix is to cut the female ferrule area off and fit a new female ferrule from fiberglass stock back on there. It's a bit of work but in the long haul would be better than sanding the male ferrule down.

What type and size blank are we talking about here?

I got a middle section from Utmost Ent. It's the tip to the middle section that Im having trouble with. The middle section from Utmost to the origional butt section fits fine. . I have the broken section and when I inserted it into the origional tip section it goes in 15/8. With the section from Utmost the middle section only goes in to the origional tip section 1 inch. Origional meaning the rod that I made. It's spey rod the RXF130 8/9. Thanks for your help.

I would send it back and have them fit a new section. Did you return the rod when you originally requested the new section? Generally the manufacturer needs to have the other section/s back in order to make sure the new section fits.

Your right this is the correct preceedure to follow in most circumstances.BUT, I took a gamble hoping that it would fit since the factory is closed down and the company does not make the blank anymore.I'm still hoping for a mid section or complete rod somewhere.

My biggest fear when buying any of the oriental made blanks is the lack of availability of replacement parts. I know I can get new sections for any of my St. Croix's or Loomis's in a matter of a couple weeks. And they'll fit properly.
