Remove high build

I have had good luck up until now with high build. But I finished a rod last evening and the finish is absoutely awfull. Is there a way to remove the finish and start over without re-wrapping? The wraps them selves are great. I did a search and could not find specific answers. I hate to start sanding and possibly touch the blank or guide or wraps and wind up with a bigger mess.
Thanks in advance again

It would be almost impossible to remove the finish without damaging the thread wraps underneath. You can sand and re-coat, if you feel that would do you any good.

Be very wary of torches and heat - you can damage or destroy the blank itself.

Doug Casey - I'm gonna butt-out of the first question you've asked, in case someone has a clever way to salvage your wraps. Maybe you should offer more of a description of what is wrong with the finish and the way it looks now. As you alluded to, if it's just uneven, but your penetration is good, you may be able to carefully sand or plane it and just add another coat if weight is not too critical.

My real question is WHAT WENT WRONG in the first place? Make sure that you correct the original problem first, before you merely repeat the problem on the next application. ... Was it bad mixing, or off-proportion, or did you exceed your pot-life, use a new applicator tool, applied too much, or forget to turn the rod while curing, ...or ... what? ... -Cliff Hall+++

I'm often horrified at the first coat on my wraps, they never seem to be any good. But after two or three more thin coats, they look beautiful. Did you do something different this time? I've done a little sanding and trimming to even out some high spots, and after the next coat you can't see the adjustments.

Just my two cents.
