I have a Winston IM6 9 ft 5 wt. which I really like. The problem is it doesn't travel well because it's a two piece. Is it possible to convert it to a 4 piece without changing the action/feel/strength? What are the trade offs? I would like to maintain the spigot ferruls through out the rod. I'm a hobby builder and I know this is over my head. Any of you pros out there able to tackel this? Re: Converting 2 piece flyrod to 4 piece

Carl,
Check out Ralph O'Quinn's article in RodMaker (Vol 4, Issue #4) on "how To Build Multi-Piece Rods". The article has the kind of info you're interested in. He also has a very good seminar in Charlotte on this task. I'm in the process of converting a 1 piece spinning rod into a 2 piece so it will fit the inside of my truck, and have spent the last couple days looking for an old fiberglass rod (flea markets, thrift shops, etc) to find something that will be the proper taper. RMM (Vol 4, Issue #1) has instructions for making spigot ferrules. Hope this helps, Stan Re: Converting 2 piece flyrod to 4 piece

Anthony,
The rod I'm converting is a 7+' medium heavy spinning rod for saltwater use. I'm not using a spigot ferrule but rather a butt-over-tip ferrule. I haven't cut the rod into two pieces yet, but have located a suitable old fiberglass rod that will probably do the job for ferrule construction. You might want to obtain a copy of RMM (Vol 4, Issue #4) which has the details of how to do it. Ralph O'Quinn ourlined the technique very well. The rod mentioned above has actually been lengthened because I built the read grip to short for my preference. It was also converted to a split grip for practice purposes. Another RMM article expalined how to go about extending a rods length and I wanted to learn to do it. Another article talked about split grips and wanted to try that also. Thank you Stan, Im thinking on cutting first and old rod to to practice , in case. could you tell me a bit more why did you choose a butt-over-tip ferrule rather the spigot ferrule?
Im also converting a 7 live bait rod. Anthony Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
