What do you use to clean your rods? I know some folks use a furniture polish or Armor-All.

Thanks,
Steve

Lemon Pledge.

If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again.

I wash the heavy stuff off with clean water, dry with a cotton towel, and wipe the rod and Guides down with a silicone impregnated cloth. When the Cork handle is dry I put it away in a rod sock and tube. And I put it back in corner with the rest of my fishing gear so it's ready to grab and go.

I'm not a chemist, so I don't know how chemicals mix and affect each other. Silicone I know is pretty inert, and I've used it for years with no harm to my gear. The equipment looks great and I've never seen a reason to change my routine.

My $.02
Denis

Check out these Posts & Replies for some good comments on cleaning, storage, and polishes. IMO, clean soap & water and a good scrubber brush & sponge is the friend of any fishing rod. (Take the reels off first! - Soap is an enemy to the oil on a reel. Use only water on reels, wiped with a soapless sponge or new paper towel or just your clean hands, if the reel is not too slimed out.) ... Yes, I have a small bucket full of cleaning brushes and sponges dedicated to after-trip clean-up of rods & reels and tackle & gear. I have never used a polish or wax on any rod, and they still look as clean as new, except for the inevitable dings and wear. Keeping your hands clean while fishing, and keeping the gunk off the rod in the first place helps a lot, too.

Read Mark Gibson's Reply. Lemon Pledge is based in SILICONE OIL. Any oil can get into your threads thru tinky cracks. Better to spray the clean rag and wipe on your polish (Behold), than to wet the rod with spray and let it find a crack into the guide wraps, where discoloratrion of light-colored threads would be noticed.

Problem! Moldy rod! any advice? Doug Howard July 1, 2005

"... Anything that gets wet, and is put away damp will become an experiment in corrosion resistant, and mildew-rot resistant. And it will become a growth medium for every cellular organism that is living on that thing (your fishing rod), living on your hands, and that was living in that water you fished." ... -CMH+++
