A friend wants me to build a Halibut rod for him with a Slick Butt grip but without a Butt Cap. He wants to be able to quickly pull the rod out of a rod holder without having a rubber cap hang up. Has anyone made a flush plug and just inserted it with rod bond, or does a vendor have a flush solution?

All the slick butts I've ever seen had a gimbal on the end, thats what you generally use in a rod holder to hold the rod in position. Jesse Re: Slick Butt Cap or Plug?

I guess you're using the Slick Butt sleeve (not the whole assembly including aluminium tube). The assembly (as Jesse noted) comes with a nylon slotted gimbal in the kit. For Slick Butt sleeves and gimbal you'd build up the rod blank as appropriate for the sleeve and match the outside diameter of the sleeve with a corresponding gimbal - which actually tapers narrower than the slick butt therefore allowing the rod to slip easily out of a rod holder. Ken, you are correct it is the sleeve. He doesn't want a gimbel so I will just try to find a smaller straight butt cap. I was hoping someone had figured a way to plug the end of the sleeve flush with the sleeve. Thanks for replying.
