Ok guy's, I did a search and found a little information. How does the dual helix effect the spline? Also, how is the quality of G USA compared to say a St.Croix or Loomis ( Loomis I think is unfair since their quality has been noted as slipping lately) but I think you hear what I am getting at since these blanks carry a pretty stiff list price. I am really interested in the DHX series for BASS rods. I see they offer outstanding warranty and that is a good selling point. One more question, do the blanks come with a Decal for line and lure size? Any and all responses always appreciated. Mark Schulte Re: GUSA dual Helix spline and Quality?

Mark, I have absolute confidence in all GUSA products, and after four years of working with them, have had nothing but positive experiences. The weight per strength ratio of GUSA rods is nothing short of remarkable...They build incredibly light, durable, responsive rods. with very intellegent tapers. All mandrel formed composite cylinders will have a "spine", it is inherent to the process. The Helical Ply lay - up process utilized by GUSA does not eliminate the phenomena...The spine can be just as pronounced, or as subtle as with any blank. And, as with any blank, it is best to locate the spine, and utilize it as a bench to determine the most effective guide location. All of the fly rod blanks that I use now come with decals. For casting blank decals, check with Roy at GUSA, or the GUSA distributors that sponsor this site. Re: GUSA dual Helix spline and Quality?

I built my first one and really like it. It's a 703 which is a 7' three power. It's a little stronger than advertised but the blank weighed in at 2 oz on my digital scale. I built it as a spinning rod for skippin flukes under docks. It's very senstive and seems pretty durable. The finish is flawless. The best I recall I had no problem finding the spine. I think Rich Forhan builds on these alot and likes them. I know Brad Tharp does. I would rate it about even with the St. Croix Avids and somewhat below an IMX. The weight is certainly very good. The overall quality and finish is very high. As good as anything I've seen. ............... Re: GUSA dual Helix spline and Quality?

Something I've noticed about GUSA spines...there's 2 of 'em, usually 180 degrees apart with one being slightly more pronounced. Makes them very easy to work with, and yes the quality is outstanding. These have been the strongest graphite sticks I've ever worked with. The DHX series comes with a nice decal noting model number and power. But please check directly with them at www.graphiteusa.com for specifics. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
