Overly conservative static weight distribution

I'm building a Dan Craft 8'6 3wt. 4 piece. On my first section I have 5 guides not including the tip top. Does anyone have any info. on this rod or has built it. I hope I'm not being overly conservative in my SWD. It just occurred to me , the lighter and flimsier the tip the more guides you have to put in that area. I will also call Dan C. on Monday.

Bill,
If you're talking about the FT blank, I came to the same conclusion and have five guides in the tip section. I used light wire snakes on mine and the lowest guide on the tip section is on the ferrule. Dan had provided me some generic spacing which I modified. The result was:

1 - 4.00"
2 - 8.75"
3 - 14.00"
4 - 19.50"
5 - 25.75"
6 - 33.00"
7 - 41.50"
8 - 50.75"
9 - 61.25"
10 - 73.50"

All measurements are to the center of the guide.

Hope this helps,
Jeff Shafer

Bill,
I placed some of Dan's guide spacing in an email to you.

Just as another data point, I ended up with something very similar to you. On my 8wt I ended up with most of my guides on the front section....
