FT switch rod: wrapping the ferrules

I've finished a 5 wt. switch rod build on Dan Crafts 10' FT blank. On this rod I wrapped the ferrules a little more than the full length the male fits into the female part of the ferrule.
Now I want to build another switch rod on a 7wt. FT blank. But I feel shorter wraps on the ferrules looks nicer. Do you think it's necessary to wrap the ferrules over the full length or is a length of an inch or so enough?
Thanks
Stefan

I think that 1 1/2 times the diameter of the ferrule is standard; you could do a search and easily find this, though. It sure doesn't need to be as long as the male part inserts.

Dan suggests the longer wrap on the thinner walled Sig V blanks but I have wrapped and fished the FT's at 1 1/2 diameters as Putter notes with no problem.

If you don't want the ferrule wrap to show wrap it with black thread 1 1/2 or 2 diameters like Putter and Stan said. I have 3 FT's that I have done this on and then put a small feather or gold leaf alignment dot on both sides and it spruces up the look of the rod IMHO.

Bob is giving good advice. If I don't want the ferrule wrap to stand out I too use a wrap that matches the blank color and omit matching trim wraps that I'm applying to the guides.

Stefan,

Although ferrule wraps of 1.5x the ferrule opening is plenty on the FT models. We do recommend at least 2x the ferrule opening at that wrap but 1.5x will get it done.
