Suggestions to smooth end of butt wrap?

I just finished a butt wrap using metallic threads. Now I need to wrap each end - which I attempted twice already. The problem is that the finished wrap has an abrupt edge... its not a smooth, gradual transition to the blank. Even when I wrap over it twice, it still shows a "cliff" or "drop-off" at the point where I had to trim the butt wrap threads. Any suggestions for smoothing this out? Don't trim all the threads at one time - cut a few on each revolution of the tie-off thread. This creates more of a shallow slope rather than an abrupt edge.
Also, use a hard, round object to flatted the ends of the cut threads. ........... Re: Suggestions to smooth end of butt wrap?

If it is too late to change the way your threads were trimmed, and you can't flatten the thread ends down enough, you might try doing a short wrap on the rod, starting about a half an inch away from your "cliff", and wrap up to the cut ends. This should help in reducing the drastic drop off, by providing a "transition area" or step, between the cut threads and your rod.
After you do this short wrap, wrap over it and the butt wrap threads, and see if it reduces the drop off appearance. Let us know what you end up doing! Re: Suggestions to smooth end of butt wrap?

simple fix. Put a coat of finish on teh whole wrap, including a one layer tie off complete with gaps. Put anothe rlayer of tie offs on once teh epoxy is hard, it will be like wrapping over a bare blank. End of problem.
