I'm trying to learn several different ways to place the guides on the rod . Just to see which one I like the best . The natural curve theory has me befuddled. I can always find the tip section .Tip up belly down, but after that it gets hard to read the the rod because of it'sstiffness I guess. Ive tried rolling and putting it in my rod wrapper but the results are mixed.If for nothing more than learning the skill I would like to say I did it. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Jus tput them on there any which way and fish it. PAy attention, and see what you like or don't like, make adjustments on teh next rod. Repeat this procedure until you find one that works for you.

That way you can five or six rods lying around that you don't like and don't perform like your expecting

The natural curve isn't a theory - it's the natural curve or warp that nearly all blanks have. All you have to do is just sight down the section to find it. You needn't flex it or bend it in order to find it.

This is my problem on the stouter pieces I can"t seem to "find the line".

Here's another way. If you have a lathe or wrapping jig - put two supports at one end and lock the section in. Stand something for reference up at the opposite end. Now go back to the end with the supports and slowly rotate the section. It will revolve or "draw" a circle on the opposite end. It's a simple matter to find the point when it's "up" on the top of the circle.

I would expect EVERY good rodbuilder to have AT LEAST this many that they were not happy with. If you or anyone else thinks they will make a perfectly performing rod teh first few times out, is lying to themselves & everyone else. More than likely, the guy who builds a few rods and thins they are as good as they can be, is building rods which aren't nearly as good as they should be.

Relying on teh internet for every drop of Rodbuilding knowledge isnt' going to help you make a better rod - it will get you started, but you have to take it to the next level by looking at each posrtion of the rod and trying to improve it. THat's what sets aside a good rod frm a great rod....price has nothing to do with it, you can be a good salesman and foll people into thinking you build a superior rod. THat's awfully common, from what I see.

I should have suggested it sooner but wasn't sure if you had a lathe or some sort of well aligned stand. Glad it worked for you. It's the method I use most of the time.
