Has anyone used the serrated ferrules from Golden Witch? Any pros or cons? I am rebuilding 4 old bamboo rods and have to replace all the ferrules and was wondering about using them instead of non-serrated.
Thanks in advance. Re: Golden Witch Field Grade Serrated Ferrules

i used them for repair on an a rod. very nice. yes i would use serrated ferrules. one thing i would be careful about is the style of ferrul that was originally on the rod. some oft the older rods came with step down ferruls and the field grades are swiss style. when you remove a step down ferrul there will be a shoulder on the ferrul station to accomodate the step down ferrul. it might be a 1/64 step down. the swiss ferrul does not step down and there will be a gap inside the ferrul where the bamboo insterts. that could cause a week spot and you could eventually break the bamboo at the ferrul station. if you have a rod that has this step down you may have to get a step down ferrul. the folks at golden witch can help you with this. they have lots of ferrul styles. you will know if you have step downs because on the male the slide has a smaller diameter than the bamboo where it enters the ferrul. If they are old rods, they most probably used step down ferrules as Larry mentioned. Very few of the older rod makers, like Garrison, used the Super Z style ferrule. What, if any, names are on the rods?
