My 7 wt FT is off the charts...

A better questions might be how close the TCR's are to the FT's..

In what way? The TCR is a overhead casting blank used to impress your friends, about the only thing it fishes well is a sinktip swing. The Sage is not the least bit forgiving of any mistakes or inadequacies, for me especially the 5 wt. The FT is a fishing tool. It's also slightly heavier. A lot of people here like the FT, don't hear to many praising the TCR. Also see a lot of the TCRs for sale. I guess Sage was right, that rod isn't for everybody.

I have a 9' 5wt FT which I have built and love it. I recently cast the TCR 9' 5wt rod but with a different line (sage vs SA GPS) and not side by side with the FT. First off I like fast rods because I'm heavy handed and tend to overload moderate action rods with any sort of distance. I usually underline most rods.

The TCR feels stiff even for me. Nice rod, but I'm not rushing out to spend $$$$ on it. I find the FT a bit softer in the tip which loads the rod effectively at close range with a short stroke and progressively increases in power to beyond my limits. I cannot overload this rod. The TCR is probably capable of higher line speeds in the hands of a tournament caster, but the FT works for me. I just put together the FT 9' 10wt. Will test cast it tomorrow.

I am not familiar with the Sage TCR but after fishing Sage and G Loomis premium rods for many years I now use a Dan Craft 9', FT 5# almost exclusively. The FT is a bit heavier and probably tougher with good reserve power. In my opinion it is also more versatile than any fly rod rod I have owned previously. On the strength of my experience with the FT and other custom rods I have built I no longer own any factory rods with the exception of one 10' GL-4 that I stripped and "improved". I find that the Dan Craft blanks as well as many other sponsors' blanks are truly great bargains and easily perform as well as the high dollar factory rods.
