I'm repairing one of my father's rods, a 7' Berkley spinning rod, that has 3" long foil underwraps at every guide. Was wondering if anyone had a quick way of taking off the foil that seems to have been put on with some form of adhesive. So far I've just been painfully peeling it off leaving smelly glue behind.
Thanks, Mick Stine Re: removing foil underwrap

Try some WD-40. I know, but it cuts glue pretty good. Just clean the rod off well after you use it. Re: removing foil underwrap

Try acetone in a small area ,before I knew better ,I used it all the time with no problems .Thinning it with water may help. Denatured alcohol may work. I propane torch mine off its very quick the secret is to pass the torch quickly past the wrappings say 2x if it does not work pass quickly 4X until you can take them off with the least amt of heat.I was using the rod for cork reamers so I didn't have to be too careful.Used the side of a tongue depresser to scrape off the the excess.
