I recently had my first problem with the Flexcoat not hardening....Strange coincidence that it occured the day AFTER I read the post about Epoxy failure. I followed the entire thread and unfortunately didn't find advice on the fix after the problem has occurred. My question is....Does this mean take the affected guides off and re-wrap, or can you just put a coat of properly mixed flexcoat on top? Re: Poorly mixed Flexcoat

Hi Steve,
If it is still soft enough, you may be able to remove most of the first coat with a rag and Epoxy/Laquer Thinner (wear rubber gloves). Otherwise a second coat of properly mixed over the first should work just fine. The secound coat should not be applied too thick, just enough to completely cover all of the first. Is it just tacky, or are we talking about a still loose and runny mix?

Steve
In my case I didn't have to use any type of solvent. I removed the uncured portion of my epoxy with my spatula by carefully scraping it off. I was afraid a rag or paper towel might leave some residue in the form of individual fibers. That left me with a thin coat of sticky uncured epoxy so I applied a light coat of Permagloss over that portion and it cured well in an hour or so. I added a final epoxy coat the following morning Over the entire inscription area and it turned out well. You can see it in the photo section under a recent "Feather Inlay" post I made. I would add a second coat as Ron advises in your case. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: Poorly mixed Flexcoat

Right. Unless you've had the rod in an extremely cool area, I'd carefully measure and mix another batch and apply a thin coat right on top of what you have now.
