I have seen spinning rods with a variable weight extention on the butt but I cannot find it as a component anywhere. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Drove up to Bass Pro and picked one up - this will work great! Thanks Bill.

The only thing is with that setup, you do not have the part that is in the rod. You will have to come up with the threaded insert portion that is mounted on the end of the handle.

You're right about needing a threaded insert. And, the 1/4" threads are not a standard threads per inch that I've ever seen. However, I went and got a 3/8" OD nylon spacer and drilled it out the ID to 1/4". It's in the rod butt now and I'm waiting for the epoxy to dry. Once cured, I'll glue the original butt cap back on which has an undersized hole in the bottom that the 1/4" shaft threads through. The new weighted butt cap fits snug over the original one, the nylon insert holds the new butt straight, and the assembly will just screw on and I have the choice to make it permanent - but I think I'll wait. Thanks guys.

Jann's Netcraft has a FUJI ROD BALANCER BUTT CAP. I have used them and I like them. Here's the link [www.jannsnetcraft.com]
