I have done some research on this site about setting up a fly rod but I have a question as usually people mention what size of guides they use but not what model.
When using Alconite guides is there a specific model to be used during the set-up? What I mean is for example on a 9 foot #6 weight would this work? stripper guide size 12 BLNAG next size 10 BLNAG or BUNAG next size 8 BLAG next size 7 BLAG to tip (I have read size 6 would also work but I have a whole bunch of these left over from another project and want to use them up). I guess my specific question is, is there a specific model of guides to be used in a particular sequence or is this a secondary concern? thanks, Tom. Re: Question about guide set-up for fly rod

I can only tell you what I use. On a 6-weight fly rod I'd probably use the following:
SVSG12 SVSG10 BLAG8 BLAG6 (as many as needed) You could probably skip the 8 and move right to the 6's if you wanted, with no change in performance. If you have 7's, they would be fine although they would add just a tiny bit more weight to the rod and on the tip area. It will make some difference, but not enough to really harm anything to the point where you won't like the rod. I wouldn't lose much sleep over the difference of size 6's and 7's on such a rod. Yes, the first two are SIC guides as the Alconite is not yet available in that high frame style. ............ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
