I have a question... I need to cast a part using epoxy. What (if anything) will epoxy NOT stick to. I'll want to get the part out of the mold after it hardens and I am sure someone has a good suggestion.Thanks, John

By epoxy, do you mean finis or adhesive??

Have you tried wax or Vaseline?

I bought a casting resin and hardner at Michael's, but they didn't have any of the 'Mold Release'. I found it, of all places, at a Ben Franklin store. The mold release will keep it from sticking. It's in a small spray bottle.

I seriously doubt it will stick to most plastics. A tupperware type container would probably work well as a casting resevoir.

When making colored rings out of epoxy I use the center of soda bottles. After letting it dry at least over night the plastic just peals off the epoxy.

Can you be more specific about the epoxy or casting resin you want to use? What type of part do you want to cast and what is the shape of it? I manufacture offshore fishing lures and I cast in Dow HSIII Silicone molds. No mold release is needed and nothing sticks to it. HSIII is a small investment it you think you might make multiple castings of the same object. You can cast 40-50 items or more from one silicone mold. It's pretty simple stuff

Where can you buy these molds?

I have used " PAM " spray for this purpose. It is cheap, easy to apply and readily available. Gets ib all nooks and crannys very well.

Vasoline works very well but it is messy. Jesse

You can use a couple of coats of Johnson's paste wax in your mold to keep the epoxy from sticking. I also use the past wax to clean up used rod blanks and make them look new again.
