Would like opinions of using Rod Bond in place of PC-7 on heavy rods. (80-130# ) Have the results of the Rod Bond been satisfactory for seats and gimbals.? Re: PC-7 vs. U-40 Rod Bond

PC-7 is a very poor choice for rod building tasks. I know it has been championed for use on heavy duty set-ups or where large gaps must be filled, but other adhesives and better parts fitting is usually the better route to take. Unless you simply need to fill a large area with a very heavy and thick paste type epoxy, stay away from PC-7. A good fitting assembly adhered with Rod Bond (or similar) is superior in nearly every way. Before I get the usual barrage of emails asking me if all PC-7 joints are going to fail - No, they are not likely to fail if you used it properly. The stuff works, but is not really designed for most of the tasks we are faced with in rod building. ....................... Re: PC-7 vs. U-40 Rod Bond

When I was young, foolish and didn't know better I used PC-7. I didn't like it when I used it and it is clearly NOT the choice for this application. Rod Bond is clearly the choice here. You might also consider Kardol, which is generally the same consistency as Rod Bond. Re: PC-7 vs. U-40 Rod Bond

I have used PC7 on many butt ferrules from Aftco in the past 15 years. But no more. I get a better fit and hit it with the Rod Bond. Seems to stay in the joint better and is just all around easier to work with. I wouldn't say PC7 is bad or shouldn't be used, just that Rod Bond can substitute for it any day and is just as strong and less fussy to work with. Re: PC-7 vs. U-40 Rod Bond

Thanks for the info. Assumed Rod Bond was strong enough. It sure is easier to use. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
