Hi guys, Just went to use my color preserver and discovered it had been all used. Is there anything I could use as a substitute to prevent a color change to the windings? Also is this substitute as good as the product you buy from the good folks to our left . Thanks to all

HELP....I have a 5 day deadline to my vacation and I need to finish my daughter's rod. I did a test with the sulky thread (pink) and it goes almost black. I usually use NCP and have never used CP...Called around and there is none local, and I can’t wait on the UPS man... I thought that I could use fly-tying cement...maybe ?? Help... all suggestions appreciated.

Water Based Polyurethane. Do a SEARCH, it’ll pop up. I think the name of the product is Varathane, but the one I tested was a bootleg brand. It is white, but turns clear when applied & dried. XLRods

PLUS lots of other chiming in. -CMH.

If I understood everybody correctly, any of the (WATER-based or URETHANE-based) ACRYLICS will work as a CP. ALSO, the WATER-BASED POLY-URETHANES (like Varathane?) work as a CP. Refer to Billy Vivona & Stan Gregory in that Thread.

Remember, that Color Preserver is NOT a safeguard against COLOR FADING from sunlight. CP keeps out the thread finish and prevents the thread from staying translucent after being wet with the thread finish (epoxy or solvent based thread finish).

One guy said that "The only thing I have found that will keep wraps near "off-the-spool" color is Varathane Crystal Clear Diamond, in the blue can." -Steve Bohrer [Re: CP turns Garnet dark, 12-11-04].

Elmer's carpenter's wood glue - interior. Thin it with water.

Elmer's carpenter's wood glue - interior. Thin it with several drops of water to 5 CC glue, don't need much.
