Hello,
I am looking for some help with finding a blank for throwing "Yo Yo" Jigs and surface irons out in the pacific inshore/offshore (SD area). I am a total newbie to this type of fishing, so please bear with me. I was hoping to get some input into what type of blank would be good for this type of fishing. I am thinking something 6' ish , 2 pc that can throw baits from 1-3 oz, and has a fast action. I looked at some of the various mfg's Saltwater blanks, but am confused on what to look for, and what blanks are optimal for this type of fishing. I am a fly guy by heart, but my last weekends fishing trip out the to Coranado Islands got me thinking that it is a good idea to have "back up" options when casting is difficult, and too many flycasters are on the boat. Barret PS. Nailed my first pacific Baracuda on a fly, around 8-9lbs using my custom Dan Craft FT 9' 10wt! Cool rod! Re: Pacific Inshore Rod Blank?

I'm an "Iron" guy myself, fishing the same waters as you. I lean toward longer rods than than you mentioned though. I prefer a fast or extra fast 8'-9' Graphite blank to get the Iron away from the boat (and most of the bait fishermen). The longer length lets me get the iron to the kelp paddies as the boat's rolling up on them. Graphite USA "Mega Mags" and Calstar Grafighters like the 800M & 900M's are some of my favorites. Calstar also offers some great fiberglass blanks for a very reasonable price.
Why 6' two piece? Space issues? Re: Pacific Inshore Rod Blank?

ooops... Just noticed your lure weights. Look at the Graphite USA "Mags" or the Calstar Grafighter "L's" & "XL's" in various lengths. Re: Pacific Inshore Rod Blank?

Mark,
Yeah, 2pc for travel considerations. Regarding wieghts.. it was just a guess from the iron that we were throwing last weekend. I will look into your suggestions. I was hoping to get something a little less spendy than GUSA (though I heard they were good). Any other thoughts? Barret Re: Pacific Inshore Rod Blank?
