Tiger Eye Rod Blank Info
Posted by: Ralph Tomaccio (---.ipt.aol.com)

I've been looking for a 3 or 4 piece moderate to moderately fast 3 weight blank and have found that Tiger Eye seems to be the only brand which offers one. I can't seem to find much info on the brand and was wondering if anyone can tell me more about them.

How do they compare in quality to the other brands out there?

I have also seen "Tiger Eye" mentioned in descriptions in relation to Sage SLT rods. Is Tiger Eye the blank actually used for the Sage?

Any recommendations as to where they can be purchased?

Thanks!

Tiger eye blanks are GREAT blanks (IMO). A couple sponsors on the left carry them, Sevier Mfg, Neal's, Merrick, to name a few..

Good luck..

Dollar for dollar, Tiger Eye blanks are tough to beat. To my knowledge, Sage produces their own blanks and does not produce any of their rod models from Tiger Eye blanks. You can spend more money (in fact, a lot more money) and get a better blank but you will be hard pressed to get as good a blank for what you will spend for a Tiger Eye. Forecast blanks are also a good alternative for the blank characteristics that you describe. In addition to the vendors that Art mentioned, Dan Craft carries both the Tiger Eye and Forecast brands and Hook and Hackle carries the Forecast models.

Good luck.

I always compared the tiger eye to the old fenwick blanks. Nice tip action and good power. Nice color also.

I think people mention Sage because the color of Tiger-eye and Sage blanks are very similar. I have used Tiger-eye blanks and have been very happy with the finished rods. $ for $ they are hard to beat. Don't hesitate to build on one.

We have been handling the "Tiger Eye" blanks from Sevier company for several years and have had had good luck with them.
They are a moderate/fast action with a very nice Translucent Golden Brown finish.
We carry most of the Fly blanks in stock.

Best wishes,
