I'm trying to use the "New Guide Concept" as described in the Library but the reel I've been given has such a shallow angle that the line extended from the spindle doesn't intersect the rod until an inch or so from the tip top. Any suggestions for guide location?

This has been thouroughly discussed in the Forum. The cure is simple. The best thing to do is run a seach for Concept System and you will your answer c=in great detail. Briefly; all you need to do is to flex your blank and mark where the tip flex meets the straight body. Make that your Choke Point. This is where to attach a line from the reel spindle. Now you have a reference line. Just follow the rest of the instructions from the Library.

Jim, My directions above work best for a fast blank. if you are building a slow blank (that flexes well toward the center or more then just pick a choke point about two feet from the tip. All guides from this point forward should be as small as can pass your knots. They can be spaced equally or spanned out a bit in accordance with the instructions f=in th eLobrary.

Or, take a reel with a similar sized spool diameter, but with more upsweep angle and use that one to set up your guides.

This is fairly rare, but it does happen with some reels or with very short rods.
