How do I determine the right casting rod blank for Salmon?

I just came back from a few days of river fishing for Salmon with my brother and he couldn't quite master the "chuck n' duck" with a fly rod so I thought I'd build him a spinning rod over the winter. Because of the brisk currents in the river, I know a 9wt in a fly rod is sufficient for Salmon but I don't know how to translate that to a spinning rod size.
I would like to build him one in the 9'-10' range but I'm puzzled about the "line wt, lure wt., and power ratings" listed for these blanks. I would most likely put 20# test on the reel and keep 8-10 pound tippet on the front end. If someone has a suggestion for a spinning blank for Salmon that wont break the bank, I would appreciate it. And I'll pour through my back issues of my Rodmaker magazines to read up on the Concept guide system but I assume the new rage is to start the stripping guides on top of the blank and stagger the rest of the guides until they wind up on the bottom near the tip section - tells you how much I know. Thanks. Re: How do I determine the right casting rod blank for Salmon?

Actually I think I meant spiral wrapped guide positions - duh. Re: How do I determine the right casting rod blank for Salmon?

Check out the Faq's page and the liberary page on spin guide placement.
Why use a fly blank-check out - [www.batsonenterprises.com] and look under salmon -steelhead blanks Highly suggest the Fuji Concept guides for a spinning rod, there ring is just the correct height. There is also a lot of info by using the search feature of this site in the red bar. The spirale wrap is for casting rods. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/09/2005 09:53AM by bill boettcher. Tim, I'm going to forward you Mudhole's liquedation email that came out last night. They have a Cascade Composites 9 foot 12-13 wt. fly blank that I think would do pretty nicely in your salmon application (built as a spinning rod). I bought 2 myself.
