What are people using for casting molds (Joe Emig's method)? Will something like a tupperware container sufficiently withstand exposure to polyester casting resins? Re: Epoxy Casting Molds

Joe covered that on the bottom of page 12. Make sure you don't have something the polyester resin will eat through - such containers are made from various types of plastic and not all with hold up.

I manufacture offshore fishing lures, and I use Dow HS III. You can also use a product from Smooth-On called Mold Max 40. They're both hardcore silicone products. Re: Epoxy Casting Molds

Take an ash tray and cover the bottom with child's modeling clay. Stick your core piece in the clay so that it stands straight. Cut the cardboard tube from a paper towel roll to the appropriate length and mount the tube concentrically around the core piece, pushing it aprox. 1/8 to 1/4 inch into the clay. Pour your resin {I use flexcoat} into the tube and let sit for about 6 hours. Peel the tube off and your casting is ready for turning. note: Once the resin goes in the mold there is no way to get rid of air bubbles other than vibrating the mold and that is not going to get all of them. Best bet is slow mixing with the mortorized mixers when doing one at a time. I use a static mixer on the Flexcoat gallon dispenser but I very seldom cast less than six at a time.
