I have been toying with rod making for some time but only at a beginner level. I have a machine and have wrapped a few rods and repaired some for friends. So far I have only done one color wraps. I want to learn to do the small (.125"-.375") bands and also decorative wraps just above fore grip (Butt wrap?). I have Doc Ski's "Custom Rod Bu8ilding and Wrapping" and Flex Coat's "How we do it" vhs and dvd. Questions:
1) Where can I find instructional videos to go to the next level? 2) Does anyone know someone in the Houston, Texas area who would help? Such as an organization or classes on rod building. I am retired and have plenty of time and I am eager to learn. THX Re: Beginner needs help

Check the directory on this site for a list of rod builders in your own area. If you do a search of this boards archives on decorative thread art or similar you can find a list of websites that have helpful thread art tutorials. Re: Beginner needs help

Doug , as far as the butt wraps go , check out the VisualWRAP site . There are some instructions for doing some wraps , I can't remember if there is video but ther are great step by step pics . You can also get a copy of the Custom Rod Thread Art book , the first 3 or 4 chapters are filled with step by step instructions for everything from layout to adding and dropping threads. The book is well written and easy to understand . Have fun . John Got Fish ? Re: Beginner needs help

Theres a good DVD called Decortive Rod Wrapping Volume 1 Spirals and Cross Wraps. It gives good instructions and you learn the basics. From there you invent your own. Luis Villarreal www.bass_v_rods@yahoo.com Rio Grande City, Tx Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
