I guess the guys with the 9wts are out on the river!
Honestly, I took the 9wt to Alaska with me but did not use it. The salmon averaged 10# +- and the 7wt was working well. I love the way the 9wt casts and for me a 9wt line loaded it well. It throws a big fly with no trouble and I do like the action!
I feel this rod/blank would be good for fast water and fish from 10 to 30# or bones and slightly larger in the salt.
You might ask your question on the N. California rod board as there are some builders there that use the blank.

I have built three FT's and the are all great rods for what I use them for. A FT 1003-4 for use in still water from a pontoon boat or from the bank, a FT 905-4 for stillwater & rivers and a FT 1010-4 built as a switch rod for larger fast water and salt water. In my opinion you can't go wrong with any of the FT series. They cast well and have lot's of power . I use either a clear sinking or floating line on the 3wt and 5wt and a 10/11 Delta Taper spey line on the 10wt.
