LSU / MardiGras Thread Colors - Bill Stevens

A central Florida angler with roots in Baton Rouge has organized a pretty big relief effort for Katrina survivors. I'm going to build a rod to present to him at the fund raiser, and would like to use either the LSU or Mardi Gras color scheme. I guess the basic colors are purple/gold or purple/green/yellow but I'm looking for the specific threads that match best. Thanks.

Mike,

Purple and goldis the ticket for LSU and just any of the Rainbow colors for Mardi Gras.
I have been unable to get in touch with Bill since the storm.

Later,
Gerald Mc

Bill is okay. I got an email from him this morning. His job will keep him busy and probably away from rod building for some time. But he's okay.

More than likely, there is an LSU website that would show their school colors if you wanted to view something official. You'd still have to match them up to Gudebrod or other thread colors, but at least you'd know where to start.

Gudebrod NCP purple thread is a better color match than regular purple. I use Green and gold J Metallic brand thread also.

Unless I am wrong, the mardi gras colors are yellow and purple (LSU colors) and green and white (Tulane colors). All four represent mardi gras, at least in the cakes and stuff we have here each year. I am no expert like Bill or Lance. I thought Bill stated his colors in a long ago posting. You might try to do a search.
Good luck
Dave

Glad to hear Bill is doing fine. Another builder in that area, Steve Parks - is also fine. He had 2 Hurricanes pass him on both sides, fortunately both narrowly missed him

I looked at his photo archives and got a pretty good idea for the LSU colors. Lance, thanks for the tip on the NCP vs. Nylon.

Mike, Bill uses Gudebrod 468 purple and Gudebrod 209 gold for the LSU colors. A nice bright green (not a lime color) can be added to those for Mardi Gras colors.
Use ncp 209 and regular nylon 468 with color preserver. The ncp gold works better than regular nylon gold even with cp on it.
Use metallic gold trim bands.
For the guide wraps, you can either use the purple with or without cp. That color purple looks pretty good either way.
The buttwrap looks much better with cp on the purple, though.
I got an email from Bill this afternoon, and he is fine.

Lance, glad to see you posting! That means you are ok as well.
I am working on your decal and will send it to you Tuesday, assuming you are still at your house.

Larry Laurent
Denham Springs, LA.
