Joe,
I've built 40 or 50 surf rods for clients on Purglas blanks, and my clients rave about them. Mudhole carries them. You've got to be a diehard to sling one that big day in and day out. I find most of my clients like the 10-11 ft. size better- same distance, lure weight, but a lot less fatigue associated with it.

Joe,

I recently purchased a Rainshadow surf blank for my own use from FishSticks4U. I was pleased with the blank, and impressed with the service. I note the Rainshadow SU1502F blank, which may be suitable, is available from this sponsor at a very reasonable price. I chose a slightly shorter blank, the SU1386F, for throwing surface lures and spoons (up to 4oz) to Stripers along the California coastline. I hope none of my fly fishing friends see this post !

I think I've seen posts saying that the Rainshadow listed above will throw more weight than it's listed for. The guys at FishSticks4U can tell you. Awesome people. Were up till 2 am their time trying to fix an order for me to the west coast. Can't ask for better than that.

Joe, You might want to first get a set of free weights to build up your muscles before casting a 15 footer for a tide or two. I agree with those who suggest using a rod in the 11-12 foot range tops. It makes for a much nicer day or night on the beach and they certainly can do the job. Lamiglas would be my first choice; especially the Ron Arra models.
