Hi all . When you use underwraps and a customer wants trim bands on top of the underwrap do you put cp on before you put the trim bands on ?This is on a surf rod .Thanks in advance for all replies.

Hi Donald
It would probably help stabalize the underwrap and make it easier to put the bands on. By no means is it necessary though.

Hi Donald,
Sometimes I try to use a smaller diameter thread for my underwraps as it is easier for a larger thread to wrap
over a smaller thread. Vise/versa is very difficult for me without coating the underwrap with a light coat of finnish
before applying the over wrap. A lot of builders use that trick regardless of the thread size because it really does
make it alot easier to do a very clean & tight over wrap.
Good luck & have fun too!

Why not just inlay the trim band in the underwrap after all as long as its put in the correct place it will look pretty much the same once the finish is applied.

Thats what is so great about this board! Sometimes the answer to an issue just doesnt come to you and then when someone makes a comment here......You say...... "Why didnt I think of that?"

Kind of like Doc's comment in the Cross Wrap thread....................... For some reason I always use too much tension when wrapping my buttwrap's(especially on border threads), and then you dont want to have any small children within a mile of my rod bench when I am trying to pack them tight! LOL!!!
