Date: August 26, 2005 04:03AM I would like to know, how I have to find the spine on 4 piece travel blank. I need to assemble the four piece before and then find the spine ? Or there is another method ? This is my first time that I have to build it, but I am really in confusion !! Thank you Re: Building 4 piece travel Rod

How I was taught, you start by finding the spine in each piece first. Then starting with the tip and the next piece, assemble them with the spines in line of each other. Check for the spine in those 2 pieces. If it doesn't feel like it is right, you may have to twist the 2 pieces a bit till you get a good spine found. Keep working your way down till you get all of the rod assembled. I just did a St Croix 4 piece blank not too long ago. After I found the spines in each section and started to assemble it from the tip, I did find that the first 2 pieces I needed to adjust it a bit to get a spine that locked in well. It is hardest finding the spine itself in the butt section of the blank and from what I did with my blank, it did not matter much how the butt section was assembled, it did not effect the spine at all. The FAQs page has some information on locating the spine on multi-piece rods you may want to read.

Italo--what Mike said! :) I spine each section, assemble with the spine aligned and see if the assembled rod maintains the same spine. 9/10 times or so it does, but occasionally it shifts slightly right or left. It's really important to remember to spine the rod assembled after finding the spine on each individual section, as that's how the rod is fished!
All the best, Re: Building 4 piece travel Rod
