Hello,
Well, it's that time. I'm ready to layout the guides and start wrapping the 13' Rainshadow steelhead float rod just in time for the fall run. I'd sure appreciate some general recommendations for guide size, spacing and tips on how to keep a clean straight line where the finish coat overlaps the wrap and bare blank. I was thinking about using a single wrap of tape about 1/16" from the ends of the wrap and then peeling it as soon as I apply the finish. Any thoughts on this? Thanks, Steve Re: Tips on guides, spacing and finishing...

You don't need tape - just a steady hand. Make sure to use a wood block or something to rest the heel of your hand on while applying finish.
If you decide to use tape, think about plastic tape - it won't wick finish like masking or other paper tapes can. Most of what you want to know on guide spacing, sizing, etc., can be found in our online library or by doing an archive search of this forum. You'll be amazed at what you'll turn up. Read to your heart's content. ........... Re: Tips on guides, spacing and finishing...

If you will use the scotch tape and do it exactly as you say, peel it when you are done coating it will be as nice as can be. I have done that same thing many times. I do not have a steady hand regardless of what I prop on. If it is removed when done coating it will flow away the square look of being taped. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
