When you use a bushing to aply a real seat you are left with just two areas that touch the real seat. So my question is do you just apply epoxy to the bushings or do you try and fill the void some how??

Filling the void does nothing but add weight. Shoot for a nice snug fit to your arbor/bushing and rely on a thin glue line for the greatest strength.

Just apply the epoxy to the bushings. Filling the void adds no strength, only weight which you don't need. Be sure to prepare the inside of the reel seat for proper bonding. Clean first with denatured alcohol, then abrade with grey scotchbrite. Nothing after the scotchbrite but the glue on the bushings. When you get the reel seat in position, rotate it several times to make sure you have good distribution of epoxy. I usually use masking tape to hold the seat tightly to the rear grip until the epoxy has cured and to hold it in proper alignment to the spine.
