Has anyone ever used these in grips? It's called "vegetable ivory" because it looks like ivory and can be worked just like ivory. Re: Tagua nuts?

Charles
Tagua Nuts are the intelligent choice for today's Artisan in search of a legal and sustainable Ivory substitute. Commonly know as Vegetable Ivory. The Tagua Nut is actually the dried seed pod of the Tagua Palm tree. These seeds are harvested in the rainforests of Ecuador. While it may take many years for them to form, the harvesting does no harm to the trees allowing for many years of productive growth. Just a little info I found on the internet. Thomas F. I know where to get them. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried them and how durable they are. Re: Tagua nuts?

Gerry,
I haven't yet used them on a road but plan to this fall. I've turned them before for craft stuff and I really like them. They are pretty tough and I can't see any reason why they wouln't hold up well as winding checks, stacked in a reel seat or slabbed into inlays. Re: Tagua nuts?

That's interesting. We've got some kind of palm in our back yard that put out a ton of seeds that look like these. It's only done it once in the 25 years that we've lived here. I wish I'd cut one in half to see what the inside looked like. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
