Morning all,
Just planning my next project and was considering flocked grips. I went back and reread the article in RodMaker Vol 7 Issue 4 and have a couple questions for those who have already successfully completed this project. #1. Is it best to ream/prefit the grips to the rod, then use a mandrel to flock or just predrill the rings, flock, let dry, ream, and epoxy to blank? #2. I remember seeing a post about finish wicking into the flock when applied against the grip. Is this a common problem and what have others done to prevent it? Thanks Regards......Doug@ TCRds Re: Thinking about Flocking

I would prebore or ream the grip to fit the blank and then do my flocking. Or, you can mount the grip to the blank and then flock it. The flock will only adhere to those areas that you apply adhesive to. Personally, I ream the grip to fit, flock it, and then mount it. But I won't say this is the best way, just the way I've been doing it for several years.
I would suggest you use a winding check on the face of your grip to prevent the finish from getting up into those face fibers at the front of the grip. ...................... Re: Thinking about Flocking

I think a winding check looks better and more finished on the front of any grip, flocked or not. Just my .02 but I think it gives the rod a more professional appearance. Re: Thinking about Flocking

Thanks. That's what I thought concerning the flocking of the grips, but did not think of something as simple as a winding check. Regards......Doug@ TCRds Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
