Antique bamboo rods

I delivered a rod to a lady today who had a very intersting collection of some old bamboo trolling rods. I really enjoyed admiring these rods. They all had the long wooden handles on them and had "Tonkin Cane" written on them. It didn't appear to be a decal. One rod had a company name on it but I couldn't hardly make it out. I want to say it was "Horroson, Hordson, Horrson"...something close to that. It also had a second name as if it was "Horroson & SoNSo". I could make out that they were in New York. Anybody have any idea of who might have made them? Just curious. I would think they had a pretty good value on them. The rods even had the original reels on them but I didn't think to get the name of the reels because I was so intrigued by the rods. One of them also had "Sarasota" inscribed on it. It looked to be hand written as well as "Tonkin Cane".

Thanks,
Steve

That would be Horrocks & Ibbotson, one of the big bamboo rod makers "back in the day." Along with Montague, they were the makers of "average" rods in their day. Good but not great fly rods and I would assume for other rods as well.

That's it Tim. Tried looking up what the value of those rods may be and it appears not very much.

Thanks,
Steve

You can get some excellent deals on @#$%& on H & I and Montague rods. As long as they are pretty beat and thus have little collector value, strip 'em down and rebuild. I just re-built a inexpensive 2 of 3 piece re-build. Looks pretty good.
