Sliding ring cork reel seat

Can anyone advise me where I can get a simple inexpensive sliding ring cork reelseat suitable for a #0 to #3 fly rod. I built up several Orvis #2 & #3 about 20 years ago with such, but cannot remember where I got the sliding ring reelseats from.

Jans Netcraft has a cork sliding band reel seat/grip combo. There link is on the left. The following is a link to a place that has a nickle silver cap and ring seat.

[mrfc.com]

I ordered one and thought it was a little too heavy because of the hardware. This shop did have one with black hardware that was painted aluminum. I see it pictured but not listed. That seat is very light. This company is not a sponsor but I don't know of any sponsors that carry cork sliding band seats.

Struble makes a nice cap & ring seat that uses teak wood and aluminum hardware called the D2. This seat is very light and would work great on a small rod.

One other option would be to located one of the Pack Bay S1 seats and make a cork spacer. Dan Craft and Neils recently had some of these seats. The S1 is a sliding band seat with an end cap and cork check. If you can find one you can generally pick it up cheap.

Good Luck,

James

The S1 seat is tough to find, and even tougher to make a good cork insert for. I've ended up just going with the wood insert on the majority of my rods and using a slightly lighter reel.

Rec has one, though it might not exactly be considered cheap. Good looking though and keeps a reel in place firmly.

Thanks,

Cortland carries the cap and rings in-house. The nickle silver looks better than the aluminum versions but is heavier.

cortland has a decent black aluminum uplock cap and ring cork reel seat for about $6. It's very light. Golden Witch, Venneri, Bellinger, and REC have really nice silver cap and ring seats with choices of inserts if you want a show piece.
