Shops? I don't really know of any. The Raleigh/Durham area has grown by leaps and bounds in the past couple decades. There are quite a few fly fishing shops near there, but nothing in the way of rod building shops. If you'll check the directory on this site, however, you may find some builders in that area that would be more than happy to have you visit their shop. You'd be about an hour and half from me and if I'm around, you'd be more than welcome here.
There will also be a NC rod builders gathering sometime in October. Fran Park is heading it up. I think he plans to have it near Lake Norman, about 2 - 3 hours from the Raleigh area. .................... Re: NC Tackle Fishing and Rod Building shops

I suggest John ballard's shop. Builds excelent rods. Has a nitch in the market that you don't se much of. Tell him Steve Gardner sent you to see him. His shop is 30-45 minutes out sie of town, and is a little hard to find. But absolutly worth the effort. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
