Smallest guide size

I'm using single foot SIC guides for the first time and was wondering if a size 6 was too small to use on my 9'0" 3pc 5wt. Personally, it looks aweful small but I was wondering what others have used with success. Unfortunately, due to cost, I'd rather not buy a variety and test cast each.
Any info would be appreciated. Aaron Re: Smallest guide size

Aaaron, you'll probably get several different opinions on this topic, all of them being "right". Having said that, I go down to size 6 on all but the heaviest fly rods that I build. The only concern I would have is if you planned on doing much sub-freezing fishing where guide icing may be a problem. I'm a fan of smaller guides and in my very un-scientific research, I don't think you'll be disappointed by using the number 6's. Just my two cents.

Aaron,
Acording to what I have read on the board, it would depend on the knots that might need to pass through the guide (s). Use only the largest needed and stay as small as possible. And Have Fun!! Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Smallest guide size

Sz. 6s will be great for that application. And, those SICs will really impress you. They really help shoot the fly line. Re: Smallest guide size

Maybe I am old school, but I like the 6's for mono line 2-6-8, but tend to go a size larger for fly line because of it being thicker.
That is why I tend to go for the Titan guides. I can go a larger size with out the weight. That's just me Check the knots that have to pass the tip top. The Forecast Polished guides are nice because the do have a lot of plating on them and tend to keep weight down, or any Unplated guide frame. Edited 1 time(s).
