I would like to try and build a 40-50# class stand-up rod for dolphin, wahoo, and tuna. I have never tried to build a rod and do not have the first thing that I need to build one. Can you guys help me out??? I do not want rollers but would like large eyes because I use wind on leaders with 80# spro swivels. I don't want to break the bank here so please no $300.00 blanks or $500.00 thread machines.
Thanks for all your help. Re: New Guy Help!!!!!!

Michael,
You should first read the FAQ's, Glossary and articles pages at the top of this page. You can also use the SEARCH function and type in something like Stand up rod and you will get a ton of info. Also Rodmaker magazine had what is probably the most comprehensive article on stand up rods ever written in Volume 5 #6. I would definately get that back issue [rodmakermagazine.com] . Just ask specific questions here and you will get a ton of help! Mike Re: New Guy Help!!!!!!

Doc Ski's DVD on building rods shows him building a tuna rod, too. I'd sure go for that if I was starting out, Michael. Putter Williston, ND Re: New Guy Help!!!!!!

I would go with wind-on rollers, wouldnt reguar guides offer to much resistance? As for blanks I just made some nice 50 stand up rods out of calstar 5'6" blanks. They are very good and rund around $40-$60 Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
