Cross/Flag Wraps

Just wondering if someone could explain to me how to do the flag or cross wrap patterns. I bought one of those diagram books, but it really doesn't explain to me how to start or how to "tie off" the thread. Also the few that I have tried never seem to stay tight on one end. Any help or suggestions would be great.
Thanks a lot,
Andy

I think you may need to back up a bit and learn some basics on crosswrapping. It will be hard to explain those things here in a message board post. The thread is held down by tape on the ends. When you finish the wrap, you wrap/wind over the pattern threads and clip the tag ends of the pattern threads as you go. The "tie-off" wrap finishes out the wrap by covering/locking down the pattern threads.

I think Flex Coat used to put out a pamphlet that had flag wrap instructions in it.

Check out the page listed below, Billy Vivona does a play by play demo with pics on how to tie off a butt wrap. By the way to help keep everything tight and not slipping all over the place I use double face carpet tape on each end the butt wrap. I also tape 1/2 a off a popsicle stick to each end before the double faced tape to allow easier removal of the excess threads at the end. Hope this helps.
