As a builder of a few of Dan's blanks, I have built on both his sand matte finish and his gloss spiral finish. The difference is that the glossy spiral finish is the blank that has not been sanded smooth so it has very smal spiral rib along the blank. The matte finis is the same blank sanded so the rib is gone and the surface is matte oe not glossy. The sanded blank appears more gray in color while the unsanded blank is nore a black or darker shade of gray. The gray matte finish is much like those of other blanks with the same description. His spiral finish is a bit unique. It depends on what you like in a rod appearance. I kinda like the spiral glossy finish because it is different, but as I said, I have used both and both make nice looking finished rods.

Bob--Dan is in the process of dropping the spiral finish on the Sig V's and replacing it with a very nice "matte clear"--not really a gloss, not really "pebbled", just a very nice finish that really shows off the matrix of the blank. You can see a pic on our website by clicking on the Dan Craft blanks link from the home page and then the link to the image.
