I fish under similar circumstances as you do Jeff, my go to rod out of all the rods that I have is a 6'6" 2wt forecast loaded with 3 wt DT line. Built with sf wire snakes and minimal wraps and finish. It is light, pinpoint ,and effortless at short distances. I decided to stay with the lighter weight rod and overline it a bit to fit my application, it's a pleasure to fish with. I would suggest finding something in the lighter range and overlining, in my opinion they fish much better at shorter distances than pairing the same weight line as you would use out over 30 feet.
