Just starting to prepare my guides for this rod ( one weight Dan Craft )and i am undecided on the size of butt guide/stripping guide.any advice on this would be appreciated .
I have a SIC stripping guide in a 12mm which i would like to use .is this correct.

i'm guessing it'll work, but i suspect it's much larger than what's genarally recommended. i use size 10 stripping guides on my 7'-8'6" fly rods, 3, 4 and 5 weights.

Try an 8 0r 10 B/Clag Fuji Alconite stripper guide and the lightest singlefoot wire guides to the tip. Ralph

#12 is way too big for such a small rod, in my opinion. A #8 or #10 is much more appropriate. If it were me, I'd do a #8 Titan since they have nice thin rings.

The (AmTak)Titan guides are great and you could get a traditional looking double footed guide that'd weigh about the same as a single foot alconite, etc.

Bryan--I'm not sure I would go smaller, though it's certainly more acceptable to do so! Most would consider a #10 to be "oversize" on a 1wt, but truthfully things don't change that much in terms of the dynamic of the cast, etc. I found a noticeable increase in smoothness and shootability in using #12's on rods that many would use 8's or 10's on. It will look larger than the "traditional" scale, but who cares? Best thing to do would be to test cast the rod with a 10 and 12 and see if you think one stands out. Scott's advice on the Titan guide makes sense--fine ring for a fine rod.
