Have a question about removing about 3 inches from the butt section of a 7' St Croix SCII blank. Will this harm the performance of the rod in any way or will it ruin the rod?

3" from the butt isnt' a big deal. Technically, it will slow teh action down (the rod tip will bend the same way, but where it starts flexing will now be 3" closer to teh butt). Honestly I wouldn't worry about it, especially if I didn't want a 7' rod.

Not going to ruin it, just change it very slightly. Do be aware that you will technically void your warranty by trimming it, however.

Agreed - the magnitude of the change will be minimal, if not imperceptible.

It's a misnomer that trimming a rod blank from the tip end will speed up the action
and trimming from the butt end will slow down the action.
Unfortunately, a lot of fisherman and beggining rod builders believe this to be true.
Was this issue brought up in an issue of RMM? If not. are there any plans too in the
near future?
