Changing length of rod

Have a question about removing about 3 inches from the butt section of a 7' St Croix SCII blank. Will this harm the performance of the rod in any way or will it ruin the rod?
Thanks;
Gary

3" from the butt isnt' a big deal. Technically, it will slow teh action down (the rod tip will bend the same way, but where it starts flexing will now be 3" closer to teh butt). Honestly I wouldn't worry about it, especially if I didn't want a 7' rod.

Not going to ruin it, just change it very slightly. Do be aware that you will technically void your warranty by trimming it, however.

Agreed - the magnitude of the change will be minimal, if not imperceptible.
General comments tabulated from a recent Post on this subject:

Effects of Trimming on Various Performance Properties of a Rod Blank
Rod Properties (per CMH) From the BUTT end: From the TIP end:
Action / Taper: More moderate, SOFTER more moderate, STIFFER
Stiffness / Power: DECREASES INCREASES
Line Rating: Lower Range slight decrease INCREASES
Upper Range DECREASES slight increase
Lure Rating: Lower Range slight decrease INCREASES
Upper Range DECREASES slight increase
Tip-Top Tube Size: no change INCREASES
Reel Seat: may need arbors ... no change
Gimbal: may need bushing ... no change

I apologize for the Table's disarray. I don't know how to control the Tabs in this Text-box. -Cliff Hall, Gainesville, FL +++

It's a misnomer that trimming a rod blank from the tip end will speed up the action
and trimming from the butt end will slow down the action.
Unfortunately, a lot of fisherman and beggining rod builders believe this to be true.
Was this issue brought up in an issue of RMM? If not. are there any plans too in the
near future?

Thanks all,

If at first you don't succede, dream about fishing while you do it over! LOL!!

Thanks for the info. Since it is a new blank I think I will keep it like it is for the moment. Thanks for the heads up Tom.
